Gate Safety Upgrades

If you have a gate that is a few years old, it may not pass the new safety standards of the European Union. It is important to make sure that your gate passes these regulations, as it is a legal obligation. Having a gate being a safety hazard is not what you want. How do you know if your gate passes safety standards?
The only complete and correct way to know if you gate is fully up to safety standards is to have a professional gate company come and assess your gate. We offer a 24 hour gate maintenance service, which includes gate safety inspection. However, if you would like to quickly check before calling us, you can ask yourself these two questions:
- Does it pass the gate force test?
The maximum amount of force the gate can have while moving is 1400 Newtons. However, on the closing edge, there can be no more than 150 Newtons of force while moving. To find the force of the gate, you must own an electric impact gate force tester. For convenience purposes, London Gates & Grilles have these as a common tool for our safety inspections. - Does your gate have a limitation that stops the gate in less than 0.75 seconds if an obstacle appears?
To test this, all you need is a stopwatch and an object that can be put in the way of the gate. However, it is difficult to time how long it takes for the gate to stop, and is therefore recommended you let professionals test this so you don’t run into any legal trouble.
